TheLocoMono Weekly Roundup # 7
Dealing With Internet Connections
Unfortunately this week has been a tough week to get online because I usually work on my blog from home. On Tuesday, something happened to the phone line at my home and since I am Profoundly Deaf, I have to wait until my parents return to help troubleshoot the issue. I have my suspicions as to what caused the issue with the DSL but it is beyond my hearing ability for I have none.
I am not the one to complain about the shortcomings of the telephone lines because I have put up with it my entire life. In any case, turn lemons into lemonade whenever you can and sell it. It did encourage me to think about going wireless on my laptop. I am not talking about finding a coffee shop but true wireless freedom. I will have to explore the options and costs involved.
Writing Optional Excerpts
In the meantime, I managed to get online and do some editing that you can see mostly over on Just Personal Finance with the optional excerpts. I was reading a comment by the “pros” about not cutting off the articles on the front page because the “pros” don’t want to take the time to click to the single post page and read the whole thing in its entirety.
To these “pros”, all I can say is boo-hoo, when I visit your websites, believe me, I don’t want to spend a minute reading your post in its’ entirety. I want to find that article relevant to what I am looking for and not waste my time navigating through your previous pages to find it. However, I am interested in what you do have to say and would take 20 seconds or less to read your excerpts.
In any case, I felt that I should do my excerpts better justice because you need to know what the topic of the article is all about and if it interest you, you will naturally click on Continued to read more.
What I am noticing as I write these excerpts is that it is helping me improve my writing quality and focus on the topic of the articles I want to write about. The excerpts may or may not contain exact wording from the articles themselves but they certainly will touch the surface of the topic I am exploring.
Just Personal Finance
I took the time to talk about the value of Setting a Retirement Portfolio Goal because whether you know for a fact or not whether you want to retire or not by a certain age or not, it is still important to be able to set a goal to keep yourself on track.
Having been a Prosper lender for a little over a year now, I am beginning to track my lending portfolio using a personal spreadsheet, Prosper Progress Report - February 2008, and Prosper’s own spreadsheet. Having reports give you invaluable insights into your own investments so you can make neccessary adjustments as needed to ensure your portfolios are on track to meet the end in your mind.

Heh, that post was from a while ago, my friend. Like a month ago but I agree, it is good to be back online. Turns out Verizon had to reconfigure the line, no explanation why it went down.
