Turning 33

I turn 33 this month.  This month, I am working 1 job on Cape Cod while preparing for my next move to York, PA this fall.

  • 30 years ago, I don’t remember much of what I was doing back then.
  • 20 years ago, I was in 7th grade and a head taller than my classmates.
  • 10 years ago, I was working two jobs, delivering flowers in the afternoon and pizza in the evenings, saving my money for my journey to Alaska.

33 is an odd number.  I am no longer 32 and yet not 34.

The further back into the years, I notice my memory becomes more and more jumbled, not quite sure if this happened that year or that happened during this year.  In a way, it is good to keep track of events in your life as time goes by.

It does not do one any good to dwell on the past.  But one should review the lesson learned through history, especially within one’s own lifetime for these lessons are worth their weight in gold.

20 years ago, I fell in love with the sport of bowling and to this day, I still think of bowling as an excellent sport where one must challenge oneself to do better in the spirit of teamwork, for the bowling team with the highest point total wins at the end of the season.

10 years ago, I never thought I would make it this far into my 30s.  For that matter, I did not even look beyond Alaska.  All I knew was I had a dream and that it was time to go as far north as possible.

Now, while I do not feel any older, I certainly know I am not any younger.  What I do know is that I can see a glimpse of dreams I had during all those years coming closer, telling me they will be arriving soon.  How soon, I do not know, but the time will be coming.

I guess the moral of this story is that no matter how many years passes you by, as long as you are willing to challenge yourself to live out your dreams, you might just find them around the corner.
