Using Windows Live Writer to Update Your Posts

Windows Live Writer is a terrific web client that you can use to work on your posts for your blog anywhere as long as it is installed on your computer. You can even work on a draft or a previous post off-line should you find yourself without an Internet connection. (It can happen if you are in a tub with a cat named Sam I Am on a boat riding on top of a truck in a remote area.)

In any case, I thought I would put this out there to help my peer bloggers if they are interested in using Live Writer or WLW for short. It is simple as opening a file on your computer, except it is connected to your blog so you can open a “file” or a post from your website. If you have the standard default screen for your WLW, then just follow the steps below. Otherwise, go to the File tab in the menu bar and click on Open…

WLWMore

In the Recently Posted section, click on the More… folder.

And you will see this,

WLWMore2

Note the two black boxes. The top box is where you can choose from a drop down list of how many posts you want to search for. As you can see, I scrolled down the list a little ways to where you can see some of my posts from December 2007. This was before I started using WLW so it certainly makes for an easy transfer of my posts to edit on WLW. I can even save the draft to work on later if I have to go off-line.

At the moment, it appears you can only choose up to 500 posts.

In the left column as you can see in the second box, it is that easy to manage which blog you want to show the list of your posts from. I currently have three blogs (this website you are at right now and two of my sub-domains) set up on WLW but will be adding more soon. So if you need to switch between blogs, you can easily do so with one click.
